Songwriter’s Challenge is an event designed to encourage local performers both amateur and professional to perform their own original material to a panel of 3 judges. The top 3 amateurs and pros from the 3 regional heats will be asked to perform on the Final night at the Sugar Wharf Carnivale Club. This event is hugely popular with performers and audiences alike as it provides a rare opportunity to hear original music performed publicly. 7 pm, food & beverages are available. Free Entry.

Miss Carnivale Masquerade Ball @ Rydges Ballroom

The quest is on to unmask this year’s Port Douglas Carnivale ambassador at an all-out glamour masquerade ball. The local winner will undertake guest appearances during the festival of Carnivale, as well as fundraising and gathering donations for the Cancer Council directed to awareness and prevention of breast cancer. Entertainment will include a special show from Bodies In Motion and live music.

A Piece of Paradise – Vintage Douglas Shire Exhibition

The Douglas Shire Historical Society is proud to be part of the Port Douglas Carnivale 2010 and will present a very special “A Piece of Paradise – Vintage Douglas Shire” exhibition at the Port Douglas Court House Museum. Period photos will give a taste of old Port and the former Douglas Shire in its prime vintages. The Museum will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 2pm. Volunteers from the Society will be on hand at all times to welcome locals and visitors. Entry is by gold coin donation.

Macrossan Street Parade

A true community event in the finest tradition, the Macrossan Street Parade has long been a highlight of the Carnivale festival and regularly draws crowds of thousands who line the high street to cheer for their friends and colleagues. Entertainment kicks off at 5.30 pm with circus and street performers and live music. The Parade starts at 7 pm and follows a route down Macrossan and Wharf Sts. This year’s post-parade atmosphere will be boosted by a series of entertainment zones along Macrossan St featuring great original live music from Simon Asquith, Savidas and Moondog Blues in Grant St Park; a wild Bush Barn Dance with the Hillbilly Goats outside Rattle & Hum; and a host of great roving circus and physical theatre performers blowing minds! The Airing of the Quilts

Mossman District Branch Leukaemia Foundation annual Airing of the Quilts features a display of handmade quilts from mainly North Queensland. Also have Craft Stalls. Morning and afternoon tea and light lunch available.

Carnivale BMX, Skate and Scooter Competition

An event for all ages, beginners to expert, the Inaugral Carnivale BMX, Skate and Scooter competition offers all levels of riders and skaters to show off their skills and capabilities in fun and supportive environment with the chance to win great prizes from PD Bike Works and Compound Skate. Run in conjunction with the Douglas Shire Community Services Association this event is aimed at giving the Youth of Port Douglas, Mossman and surrounds a place to express themselves and will have local judges and a DJ to provide the soundtrack to each rider. Pick up an entry form from PD Bike Works, The Douglas Shire Community Services Association in Mill St, Mossman and the Carnivale ticket office. Organisers of Carnivale’s most successful long term event, Food, Wine & A Taste of Port, are offering a richly detailed evening of Latin American food, music and dance entitled “La Vida Loca” this year. Golf Tournament – Sea Temple Golf Club + Mirage Country Club

The 2010 Port Douglas Golf Challenge Cup is a testament to the golfing prowess of the region and is a 40cm high polished cup that is eagerly contested. The 2 day event is played at Mirage Country Club on day 1, Monday 24th and at The Sea Temple Golf Club on day 2, Tuesday 25th. The game is an Ambrose event played in shotgun style at 11am both days. Day One winners will be presented at Mirage CC after play on day one and all other prizes and trophies will be raised at The Sea Temple GC Tuesday afternoon. Handicaps will be as per AGU/WGU status OR will be a maximum of 10 for male non-handicapped players and 20 for female non-handicapped players. All Golflink numbers MUST be on application for handicaps to apply. The nomination form is available at Mirage CC , Sea Temple GC or www.carnivale.com.au. Only twenty five teams of 4 will be accepted. And that will be the first 25 paid entries! Get in quick. 11 am (both days). The Cairns Adrenaline Film Festival (CAFF) Roadshow will showcase the best entries of this inaugural film competition. This will be an event full of adrenaline packed films made by local and international action sports enthusiasts. Come and see what people out there are doing!
