A true community event in the finest tradition, the Macrossan Street Parade has long been a highlight of the Carnivale festival and regularly draws crowds of thousands who line the high street to cheer for their friends and colleagues.

Visitors flock to the parade too, as the sense of community spirit and pride is such a tangible part of this Carnivale highlight. It matters not how great or lesser a float: its being there that counts. Some are extravagant, some are simple; all are applauded.

Come early and get a vantage point along Macrossan Street, which will be closed off during the afternoon to faciliate the parade. Street entertainment commences from around 5.30pm, with the float procession getting underway at about 7.00pm (its difficult to be precise!).

This years Parade theme is “Vintage Port” – that could mean vintage OZ, vintage canefarm, vintage cars, vintage anything goes! It is NOT compulsary for floats to stick to the theme but it certainly appreciated! Classic rides, vintage dresses, cane growers utensils. It’s your float show us what you think vintage port means to you!

2010 Port Douglas Carnivale Street Parade will explode in a ball of hi-octane street entertainment designed to turn the evening into a true street party! With entertainment zones up and down Macrossan St there will be something to keep everyone entertained from 5 pm till midnight (stopping for the fireworks at 9 pm)!

Crazy Shirlee Sunflower will be looking for love in all the wrong places….. The Great Dave will astonish you with his great feats of physical trickery and balance….. The Spinn Sisters will teach people young and old how to spin a hula hoop like a champion….. Danny Simony‘s Magic Show will enchant the kids…. The Drum Up Big drummers will electrify the parade audience…. Gorgeous Strawberry Fundaes will paint your face… Grab a balloon sculpture from the bumbling Captain Smarty Pants… Kids will be entranced by Kyle Raftery’s Smiley Show… Love FIRE? The Flammable Fire Tribe will fan the flames for their fans all night long… Watch out for that wacky Mr. Stuggles – wait and see what tricks he pulls out of his suitcase – it could be one ball or five clubs and everything in between!.. and MR. ha Ha P will incite joy and hilarity to all that dare to watch…. Beware the Mixed Lollies Fashion Cop (you might get a ticket for that lairy Hawaiian shirt)… Hanzard – juggler extraordinaire – will entertain young and old with his old world showmanship, reminiscent of the vaudeville era…  Wait for the end of the evening for the rollicking Carnivale Tarmac Cabaret as all the acts come together for some late night tomfoolery. Don’t forget the kids amusement park set up at the Sugar Wharf end of Macrossan Street offers old world fun fair atmosphere for  the whole family!

If it’s MUSIC you’re after, we have plenty of that wonderful stuff too! Simon Asquith will play his own magical brand of rootsy acoustic guitar, while Savidas gets down and dirty with their rootsy / hip hop acoustic stuff which will have everyone dancing no doubt. Moondog Blues‘ will be playing their acoustic blues to get us all in the mood for the Douglas Rock N Blues Bonanza the following Sunday! Mountain stars The HillBilly Goats will lead us in a wild, high energy bush Barn Dance out the front of Rattle N Hum and will be found roaming the streets late in the evening to get the hillbilly juices flowing in the late night streets.

By definition Cabaret can be described as entertainment, often of an improvisatory, satirical, and topical nature; a form of theatrical entertainment consisting mainly of political satire with skits, songs, and improvisations.

Ms Klara McMurray (aka Miss K), from Melbourne will perform the final of her trilogy, on stage @ the Clink Theatre backed her travelling guitarist, Gumpy. Also as pre- show entertainment we will showcase a trio of local artists.

In 2007 we saw “Love, war, faith and a singing telegram” where she grappled with major issues of faith, love and war all whist roller-skating.

In 2008 she performed “Il Mio Amore” which showcased the cooking of an Italian dish whilst plotting the demise of her lover.

This years show “HOT SPELL” sees Ms Mc Murrays alter ego on stage (MissK) continue her life passage in a HOT HOT HOT delirium of questions. The temperature is rising! Is it The Greenhouse Effect, the apocalypse or merely the heat radiating from her knickers? As the city hits boiling point it’s impossible to stay sane. The only thing that’s certain is that heads will roll…..but who’s?

Supporting Miss K are Comedian Aaron Thomas, Musician Danny Ross and Local band Benny and the Clones.. Aaron Thomas – at 15 years of age Aaron is already performing stand-up comedy. He performed magic at the age of seven and has enjoyed entertaining people since. By the age of 13 he was already winning competitions for his comedy/magic routines. Also Danny Ross who has played guitar since he can remember and released his own CD. He has recently moved to Sydney and is playing gigs on the festival circuit around Australia. We are lucky to have him back.

This is a two-hour cabaret extravaganza (with a 20 minute bar break) with songs that soar, satire that sizzles and knitting…………..strangely enough! Children not advised
