Port Douglas Carnivale is looking for community spirited volunteers keen to help with this year’s event from May 25-27.
Around 50 volunteers are required to help make the various events of the three-day festival a success including the Tropical Magic Street Parade, Family Beach Day, and Saturday night’s concert featuring Ross Wilson & the Peaceniks.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said every year, volunteers help make Carnivale a success and their enthusiasm and support are invaluable.
“The volunteers take the pressure off the event co-ordinator on the day of the event, offering an extra pair of hands.”
There are a number of roles available, and volunteers don’t need particular skills.
“The street parade for instance needs people on the day to help with registrations, crowd control and float marshals,” Mayor Leu said.
She said the willing army of volunteers is a big part of what makes Carnivale so special. “They create the atmosphere each year and Carnivale wouldn’t be the same without them.”
Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they liked. “We know people have busy lives and are grateful for any time that an individual is willing to give us.
“It can be just one hour…every bit helps and we would be very appreciative,” Mayor Leu said.
