Artists Call For Street Performer Of The Year

Street Art & Music FestivalThere will be song in the air and heats of entertaining feats as Port Douglas Carnivale plays host to a week-long street art and music festival.

The annual Port Village Shopping Centre Street Art and Music Festival at Port Village Shopping Centre on Macrossan Street is attracting interest from an array of street artists, musicians, singers, and dancers, and more are invited to “strut their stuff” in down-town Port Douglas.

All performers will have the chance to compete for the title of Carnivale 2015 Street Performer of the Year and $500 worth of prizes.

Heats will be held between 10am and 8pm daily from May 25, with the finals on Saturday, May 30, taking place between 10am and 3pm. Musicians will perform jazz, folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll, modern, acoustic and electric.

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said the free entertainment in the heart of town added a vibrant flavour to the annual festival.

“We introduced this event at last year’s Carnivale and are thrilled that the Port Village Shopping Centre has continued to support it this year,” Mr Weavers said.

Event manager Visnja Prtenjaca is encouraging all local artists to take the opportunity to show their talents.

“We want people from throughout Far North Queensland to showcase their art at this year’s festival. Who knows where it could lead,” she said.

The Port Village Shopping Centre Street Art and Music Festival adds to an event-filled week, which includes Modele 15, the Big Laugh, and theatrical performances at The Clink Theatre.
