Port Douglas, 11th February 2025 – Maho Magic Bar will illuminate Port Douglas during Carnivale 2025 with its unique, immersive experience that takes audiences to a glittering Tokyo night.
Created by Broad Encounters, acclaimed by ARTSHUB as “the leading creator of exciting and thoroughly immersive theatre in Australia right now”, Maho Magic Bar will play at Dixie Park for an extended four-week season for Port Douglas Carnivale.
Kirsten Siddle, creative director for Broad Encounters, said Maho Magic Bar promised to jet audiences into a neon-lit night, with all the mischief, mayhem, cocktails and laughter you could wish for.
Step inside the dazzling pop-up venue and you will find an intimate, bespoke and gorgeously refined bar and entertainment space.
After taking your seat and selecting your drink of choice, consummate master magicians, direct from Japan, will perform your own exclusive magic show at your table – creating an unforgettable, multi-sensory and interactive experience unlike anything else.
“I wanted to bring Japan’s crazy, cool, fun to Australia and give audiences an experience unlike anything they have had before. Seeing close-up magic really does inspire awe,” Siddle said.
“The skill, finesse and personalities of these master magicians is really mind-blowing and Maho Magic Bar is the ultimate, hedonistic night out in Tokyo, without leaving Queensland.”
Leading the Maho Magic Bar troupe as boss lady and host is Sawaka, who channels the inimitable legend of the onna-oyabun (Yakuza Godmother).
Legend of Japanese TV magic shows, Shirayuri, joins the group with his debonair style and original tricks featuring scent, handcuffs, fruit and even vegemite, while crowd favourite Kaori Kitazawa will deliver super kawaii illusions, continuing to tear up the rulebook in a profession traditionally ruled by men.
Hailing from Tokyo’s famed underground magic bar Osmond, is Wambi, who is a master of fire manipulation and rounding out the troupe of magicians is Ryu, the renowned magical inventor, responsible for creating original magic for magicians around the world. Finally, Jun Nakamura, the internationally awarded ‘flair’ bartender with hands faster than a shooting star, creates magical cocktail mixology with unrivalled performance flair.
Fuelled by a carefully curated bar menu of premium Japanese libations, you can choose from delicious and innovative cocktails and mocktails, sake from three different regions and styles, find love with Japan’s famed whiskeys and shochu or savour an umeshu and soda.
And if you’re feeling adventurous in spirit, round out your experience with a purchase from the mysterious ‘Special Menu’.
Plus, there is also the option to book out an entire exclusive table for 6-14 of your squad or even an entire show for a once-in-a-lifetime party to remember.
Tickets are now on sale for the Maho Magic Bar, priced from $62.10 (plus booking fee). For more information and to book tickets visit the website www.carnivale.com.au.
