Sell Out Weekend for Port Douglas Carnivale

Port Douglas, 23rd May, 2022 – Port Douglas Carnivale has drawn to a close with thousands from across the country attending the much-loved event.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said it was a sold out weekend for all ticketed events with fantastic crowds out and about enjoying the Carnivale program from Friday through to Sunday.

He said setting the tone for the weekend was the Property Shop Tropical Wonderland Street Parade, which saw a huge swell of people line the street to watch the progression of floats.

“The parade was just fantastic, the community really got behind this event and the effort the participants went to with the costuming, music and decorations was just outstanding. Congratulations to everyone that took part, it was such a wonderful night,” he added.

Taking out best overall float was the Clink Theatre with Priscilla the Musical, best business float went to Port Douglas Bike Shop, best community float went to Port Douglas State School and best individual went to Sweet K.

At the Longest Lunch, more than 200 guests took in the waterfront views at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, with the location also hosting the inaugural FNQ Gin Fest on Saturday, and Seafood Extravaganza on the Sunday.

The beach day was also a highlight with lots of live entertainment, the annual sandcastle building competition, skydiving demonstration, samba in the sand and BMX and beach hockey demonstrations. The Pooch Party also returned for its second year, raising money for Paws & Claws.

It was then back to Rex Smeal Park where The Australian INXS Show entertained more than 1500 people for 90 minutes with some crowd favourites.

The Wonderland Spiegeltent’s three-week season of performances including Rouge, Debauched, Kate Ceberano, Akmal, Circus Wonderland and Joe Camileri and the Black Sorrows were all sold out.
